Championship Drills for Sound Basketball
Price:
$39.95
with Jack Bennett,
former University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Head Coach,
Back-to-Back NCAA D-III NCAA Champions! ('04, '05)

Playing "Sound Basketball" is a concept so important to Coach Jack Bennett that he has developed his coaching philosophy toward that goal, his team practice drills are based on reinforcing it, and it is his teams' "soundness" with the ball that Bennett can point to as evidence in back-to-back National Championship titles! In three of the most important games of the last two seasons, one semifinal and the two championship games, Bennett's teams had an astounding 49 assists and only 15 turnovers. They had no turnovers in the second half of the 2005 Championship Game due, in large part, to the drills shared on this DVD. These drills will make your team a better passing team - this translates into an effective, more aggressive offense! In this DVD, Coach Bennett shares his philosophy and teaches seven comprehensive possession drills that start out 2-on-0 and build up to 4-on-4, half- and full-court. Bennett also discusses the common errors that players make and offers simple corrections. In addition, extensive game footage highlights the benefits of the drills when "the pressure is on." This video is a great complement to any half- or full-court offensive system because it reinforces Bennett's philosophy: "less turnovers equals more wins!"

The 10 Best Practice Basketball Drills Ever
Price:
$39.95
with Brian Gregory,
University of Dayton Head Basketball Coach;
10 year assistant with Tom Izzo at Michigan State University

"Don't try to teach everything. If everything is important, then nothing is."

Coach Gregory shares the "Super Ten", a time tested set of offensive and defensive drills that have produced great players and championship teams. The drills on this video are utilized at every University of Dayton practice. The five best defensive drills lay the foundation for team and individual defense through repetition and hard work. Gregory shares his defensive philosophy by detailing the Five Defensive Components that guide his defensive teaching including: elbow/block coverage, protect the scoring area, give early help, contest shots, and contesting the pass and pressuring the ball. An emphasis is put on sprinting to the ball, close outs, defending the post, covering ball screens, and 5-on-4 scramble. Each defensive action, or drill, is beneficial in multiple ways. Getting players open for good shots is the focus of the best five offensive drills. These drills are flexible enough to run against man and zone defenses. To complement each action displayed, Coach Gregory then illustrates a set play using that action. This DVD highlights the double away action, I-action, roll and replacement action, Princeton action, and screen-the-screener action. This teaching gem will aid any coach looking to simplify and improve his offensive and defensive attack.

NCAA "Sweet 16" (2005),
Philadelphia Big Five Eastern College Coach of the Year

In this DVD, Coach Wright will take you through an entire practice early in the season. Like all top-notch coaches, his practice is organized, energized, positive and enthusiastic. This half-hour shows Wright's commitment to solid technique and fundamentals, which are part of every practice. Next are a series of small group drills with offensive and defensive emphasis. 21 Versatile Skill Developmental basketball Drills
Price:
$39.95
with Brett Gunning,
Villanova University Associate Men's Basketball Coach,

introduced by Jay Wright,
Villanova University Head Men's Basketball Coach,
NCAA "Sweet 16" (2005),
Philadelphia Big Five Eastern College Coach of the Year

Jay Wright's ability to transform his players' skills through individual workouts is legendary. Few are better at molding a player to his system with solid teaching, hard work, and repetition. Associate Head Coach Brett Gunning guides players through a classic Wildcat workout. This video will demonstrate the value of repetition when teaching in a small group setting. Wright stresses the "one workout fits all" philosophy as guards and forwards execute the identical workouts. This year-round workout is a foundation of the Wildcat program. Their spread floor attack from all five spots on the floor makes success virtually impossible for opponents. Players get maximum reps during this intense 40-minute skill development session. This workout begins with set lifts, an excellent shooting technique used every day in Wright's program. A quick, aggressive ballhandling segment follows that includes ball slaps, two ball drills, and full-court work emphasizing change of speed and direction. Not a moment is wasted as players shoot game-like free throws between drills. Passing is demonstrated with the versatile three man weave run tight, three-point line, and sideline in the full-court. A footwork segment illustrates the Jab Series: Jab & Go, Jab & Rip, Jab & Jump Shot. After free throws, the workout turns to shooting work. Olympic shooting involves two ball and three players with the emphasis on good habits such as passing, pivoting, and rebounding. The intense workout concludes with competitive 1-on-1 and 2-on 2-drills. The 1-on-1 drill matches the offensive players Jab Series skill against the defensive players ability to keep his head and hand on the ball, make quick slides, contest the shot, and tag the shooter. This drill culminates the skill session by combining all offensive and defensive teaching points into one drill. Hard play, competition, communication, skills, concentration, and good habits are a part of every work out. A superior example of how players can be made in the in-season and off-season!

Montrose Christian (MD) HS Head Coach;
2x National "Coach of the Year" (USA Today),
89% winning percentage in 29+ years of coaching

This fundamental drill provides a defensive foundation for the entire season. The 'Mustang slide' is a fast-paced drill that incorporates the defensive slide with the dive. Renowned strength coach Alan Stein has developed a few of Vetter's favorite drills that develop quick feet and hands; 'Read and React' and the 'five-cone pyramid' are two examples. Ball drills play a key role in Vetter's practice drills philosophy. Stationary ball handling drills build strength and command of the ball. Included are the 'dribble and roll', 'two ball' drills, 'leg circle' drill and the 'leg scissors' drill. The'3-man weave' is done with 5, 4, 3 and 2 passes. To create game-like settings, plastic trashcans are used on the floor. Players dribble and maneuver around them and take on defenders. Another favorite drill is the '2-on-1' drill where offensive players attack the basket against one defender. To involve all players, the '11-Man Fast Break' creates legitimate game like situations. The 'Two-man Finishing' drill is excellent for powering the ball to the basket. Each drill is competitive and designed to benefit both the offense and defense players. Gregg Popovich My Favorite Drills and the Motion Offense
Price:
$39.95
with Gregg Popovich,
San Antonio Spurs (NBA) Head Coach

All coaches have a group of favorite practice drills, and NBA great Gregg Popovich is no exception. He dedicates this presentation to drills that have led to NBA championships. He begins with a simple, yet fundamental 3-on-0 pass and cut drill, which is a staple for the Spurs and is run throughout the entire season. Full court 3-on-3 and 4-on 4 weave drills expose and develop passing, thinking and decision-making. An excellent drill to establish defense is the 4-on-4-on-4 drill. Without the pick away and post up options available, players must pass, cut and maintain good spacing while looking to score. Conditioning and communication are two key elements of this competitive drill. Later in the drill, the pick & roll is added to the offense to create difficulty for the defense. The down and back 5-on-5 drill incorporates all of the pieces of the game. To teach several defensive principles, the full-court one-on-one drill is used often. Technique, desire, and passion are required to be successful in this intense drill. Disc II includes a favorite shooting drill where points are given for makes and points are lost for misses. The rocker and jab step can be added to this drill. Popovich is committed to fundamentally sound offensive play. The 5-on-0 motion drill is run full court to improve offensive patterns. He introduces the gaggle, which is a two-man game on one side of the floor. Popovich closes by teaching the finer points of his motion offense. He does an excellent job of stopping play to explain and teach players his offense. Cornerstones of this offense are the 3-on-3 drill, the gaggle play and the 2-on-2 elbow look and are broken down often.
