There are 2 guards on the basketball team. The guard position, especially the point guard is a very important position. The point guard is the liason between the players and the coach. The point guard is typically the best dribbler and passer on the team. The point guard is sometimes called the floor general, which indicates the key role that the point guard plays. The shooting guard, also called the two guard, is typically a team's best outside shooter of the two guards and possibly the best shooter on the team. This player flanks the point guard and moves around the court to try to create some space to take a shot that is uncontested by the opposition.

with Jay Wright,
Villanova University Head Men's Basketball Coach,
NCAA "Sweet 16" (2005),
Philadelphia Big Five Eastern College Coach of the Year
Villanova University basketball has reached a new level of excitement under Coach Jay Wright. His attention to detail and repetition allow his teams to compete with the nation's best programs. A strong believer in footwork and balance, Wright consistently incorporates these into every shooting drill as he guides you through the entire shooting progression with this on-court presentation. This DVD is packed with 28 valuable drills that show why Villanova a dangerous offensive club every year in the powerful Big East. Using warm-up and technique drills, game drills, and free throw drills, he teaches and describes fundamentals and teaching points. Practice begins with set lifts to reinforce proper technique. "Keeping the elbow under the ball" is emphasized in the Bradley drill. The Mikan and reverse Mikan drills develops touch around the basket. A staple in the Villanova system is seen in the one- and two-step shooting sequence, which relies on proper footwork. V-cuts, rebounding, and shooting are combined in three man, two ball shooting drills. In all of the drills, a big emphasis is put on good, crisp passing. Wright believes in game-like, competitive shooting as he progresses through practice. Because confidence is the key to free throw shooting, the Wildcats work on free throw consistency throughout this video. Ultimately, game situations challenge players to build their confidence from the free throw line. During competitive drills, Wright preaches to his players to "set up quick, shoot slow". The two ball drill segment combines the screener and cutter as they build parts of motion offense into shooting drills. Four cutting options are presented after screens: Curl cut, back cut, out cut, and the straight cut. These drills increase the ability for each player to shoot from all spots on the floor, making the team balanced and difficult to defend. A great video for solid footwork and competitive shooting drills!

Ganon Baker has done it again with a breakthrough shooting workout that has it all. Footwork, shooting mechanics, teaching points and drills are on display in this intense one-hour workout. On this DVD, Baker instructs youth-team players on "the lost art of shooting." Players learn how to find shots in four ways: Catch & Shoot, Shoot on the move, Dribble & Shoot and Shoot off the fake. Average players can become offensive threats by working on these four facets of shooting. Because many players waste practice time with half-hearted shots, this DVD preaches players to "practice game shots at game spots at game speed." The workout shows how the serious player can use practice time to improve his shooting and scoring ability daily. Shooting mechanics depend on "perfect feet" by pointing 10 toes to the rim. A quick "one motion" shot is demonstrated that will help players shoot quicker and straighter. Jump shot basics are covered with six superior drills, including the demanding five spot shooting drill. An underrated aspect of the game is shot faking. When the fake is short, quick and balanced, the defender becomes the victim. The Iverson Jab and the Kobe Jab are taught and used in these drills. Shooting on the move is illustrated with the Iceland drill, a new version of the elbow to elbow shooting drill. The Downscreen, L-cut, and America's play drills teach players to play without the ball and create good shots. Conditioning plays a part in Baker's drills as seen in the Intensity Jumper chair drill and the cone drill. By incorporating multiple aspects of proper shooting, players execute combo drills to refine their skills. The workout concludes with seven shooting drills that test player's skills and intensity. The Australian 3-man 2-ball shooting drill, X-out drill, Tip & shoot, Close Out 1-on-1 drill, Chaser, and the Eastman Baseline touch drill will push players out of their comfort zones. This DVD is a value to players and coaches because of the creativity and intensity required for each drill. Players will also develop multiple ways to get open, shoot, and score. A great approach to shooting that will push the individual to improve and the team to excel.
