Cone Drills

The Pro Development Camp was established in 1996 by Coach Martin and NBA Hall of Fame Center, Bill Walton. Martin, a former Division I player and assistant coach, also added NBA agent experience to his sterling resume. Because Martin trained his own players and negotiated their contracts he was credited for their improvements, which led to great contracts. In 2005, Martin brought his program to the West Coast. Based in Los Angeles he now trains NBA and collegiate players at UCLA. This self-improvement DVD on cone drills illustrates his ability to transform players quickly and turn their "dreams into reality." Martin teaches the "open stance" on the wing, which allows players many options on the catch. The left pivot drill works on four moves: Rip through low, shoot, drive and drop step drive. Cones are placed on the floor to simulate defenders. The change of direction drill requires the player to beat two defenders and shoot over the third. The third defender represents the help that rotates over to defend the ball, making these drills game-like. Multiple moves in these drills enhance a player's footwork, ability to play low and finish shots. Players become versatile by using both pivot feet and using through the legs and behind the back dribbles. From the point guard position, Martin puts players through drills facing the basket. These drills develop the crossover, step back dribble, the floater shot and the running hook. The full court dribble drill challenges players to cover the most floor with the least amount of dribbles. With this DVD, all players can develop perimeter skills needed in today's game. These drills will help you gain confidence and ball skills that will elevate you into the next level.

Post Paddle Play

The Pro Development Camp was established in 1996 by Coach Martin and NBA Hall of Fame Center Bill Walton. In 2005 Martin brought his program to the West Coast. Based in Los Angeles, he now trains NBA and collegiate players at UCLA. This DVD on Post Paddle Play illustrates his ability to transform players quickly and turn their "dreams into reality." Fundamental shooting drills are a big part of this training program. Martin uses a pro player to demonstrate form shooting with one hand from several spots on the floor. A stance that is open to the ball is important in Martin's teaching. A lot of the teaching in this DVD deals with the transition from low to high post. The high post jump shot, straight drive, drop step in opposite direction and rip through help players play facing the basket. Working against the paddle helps players score against shot pressure and contact at the rim. This workout makes good use of cones simulating defenders. The cone in front of the goal creates the pull-up floater, straight drive, or dunk. Footwork is a crucial element for post self-improvement. Combinations are drop/jump shot, rip/jump shot, step back jumper and baby hook to right and left sides. A series of drills from the point guard position help post players develop ball skills needed to face the basket. The crossover and inside/out dribble are used on the perimeter, as Martin uses the paddle to simulate the opponent. Pull up shots, running shots and floaters are taught as options also. Players are taught to drive from the wing and finish with running hooks, pull up jumpers or step backs. A series of low post drills help players improve near the basket. The squat and spin, drop step and lock and sit techniques are taught. "Finishing School" is a series of drills that improve player's ability to score at the rim. This multi-faceted DVD covers post play self-development from all angles. By using the paddle, you can help your players gain strength, confidence and skills!

Lunch Break Workout

Franklin Martin's Pro Development Camp was established in 1996 by Coach Martin and NBA Hall of Fame Center, Bill Walton. Martin, a former Division I player and assistant coach, also added NBA agent experience to his resume. In 2005 Martin brought his program to the West Coast. Based in Los Angeles he now trains NBA and collegiate players at UCLA. The Lunch Break Workout can be done in 30 minutes during a lunch break, and is custom made for high school players. Fundamental shooting drills are a big part of starting out on the right foot. Starting under the rim, players execute the four fundamentals of shooting: Bend & balance, in & under, rim & release and dedication. A major emphasis is put on the push-pull dribble. Added to the push-pull is through the legs, behind the back and spin. Full court ball handling is demonstrated in the "Push Out" dribble drill, alternate dribble drill and escape dribble. Martin is a proponent of foot quickness and shows the alternating, side-to-side, box and reverse box drills. The jumping drill drives knees to the chest and builds explosiveness. Partner shooting drills, like the 5-spot drill, emphasize low play and shooting fundamentals. The one dribble drill helps develop awareness coming off screens. The "hard dribble" is one long, extended dribble in front heading to the rim. To add to this move, the one-two step leads to a pull up jump shot over the defense. The rip through, drop drive and reverse lay-up can also be added to each of these drills. This workout is a featured workout at the Five-Star basketball Camp and that was designed for Five-Star and the McDonald All-Americans. This DVD provides an outline for a 30-minute workout that can progressively add quickness, ball skills and shooting ability to your game. Use the drills presented to invest wisely in your game!
